  • AW2 Veteran and Speakers Bureau participant Joe Beimfohr was featured in this month’s American Way Magazine, which is on board every American Airlines flight, in an article about participating in the Soldier Ride with a one page photograph of him riding in front of the Washington Monument.
  • AW2 Soldier SPC Michael Cane and AW2 Veteran Vincent Short were featured in an ABC News video about the Army’s Caisson Platoon providing a new life affirming mission through helping wounded warriors learn how to ride horses for physical and emotional therapy.
  • AW2 Soldier and Veterans Affairs Assistant Secretary MAJ L. Tammy Duckworth was featured in a Virginina Pilot article after she spoke to servicemembers about her own story as a wounded Iraq Veteran as well as the VA’s plans to improve services.

  • AW2 Veteran Melissa Stockwell, featured on WBBM-TV, Chicago, competed in the 2009 Chicago Triathlon—the world’s largest triathlon—five years after losing her left leg.

  • AW2 Soldiers SPC Steve Baskis, SPC Travis Fugate, and MAJ A.J. Tong, featured in Oregon Live, participated in water and climbing sports hosted by The Blinded Veterans Association.
  • AW2 Veteran Ira Brownridge, a guest speaker at the VA Welcome Home/ Car Show for Veterans in Michigan, spoke of his long road to recovery and the assistance of the VA and AW2. His AW2 Advocate Melvin Kearney thanked the Dale Carnegie Training Course for helping Brownridge achieve a higher level of confidence, enhance his public speaking skills, and better manage stress. The details of the event are featured in VAntage Point, a VA Ann Arbor Healthcare System publication.
  • AW2 mother Linda Cope, mother of AW2 Veteran Josh Cope, was featured in the News Herald and WJHG-News Channel 7 for her plan to host over 40 wounded Soldiers and spouses in the Panama City Beach community for a retreat weekend in September.
  • AW2 Soldiers SSG Gabriel Garcia, SSG Alfredo “Freddy” De los Santos, and SPC Keith Maul, featured in the Sacramento Bee, participated in the Vail Veterans Program summer retreat that provides outdoor activities, including rafting, fly fishing, skeet shooting and horseback riding.
  • AW2 Veteran Jason Gladney is featured on AFN talking about his positive experience in the AW2 Education Initiative working towards a master’s degree at Kansas University.
